Here, ДЕЛАЮЩАЯ is a participle

The participle is a special type of verb that has features inherent to the verb (tense, aspect and voice) as well as some attributes of an adjective (gender, case, number declinations). 

Participles can have full and short forms. All participles are used in the present or past tense. This post will be about full active participles in the present and past.

Let’s see how to make it.

Present tense

Step 1 – take infinitive ПОКУПАТЬ (to buy), БРАТЬ (to take).
Step 2 – conjugate it 3rd person plural (они) ПОКУПАЮТ, БЕРУТ.
Step 3 – drop out the endings ЮТ/УТ, ПОКУПА-ЮТ, БЕР-УТ.
Step 4 – add ЮЩ/УЩ and an appropriate adjective ending for masculine (basic), feminine, neuter or plural.

Finally, we have ПОКУПАЮЩИЙ (that buys/is buying), БЕРУЩИЙ (that takes/is taken).

Thus, a participle is a kind of substitution of the word «который» (who, which, that), that we use in compound sentences. Whereas, a participle can make the phrase simple with the same meaning.

Человек, покупающий сейчас овощи в магазине, мой сосед. Человек, который покупает сейчас овощи в магазине, мой сосед.A person, who is buying now vegetables in the store, is my neighbour.
Это наши друзья, живущие на пятом этаже.Это наши друзья, которые живут на пятом этаже.These are our friends, who live on the 5th floor.
Провожающих попросили выйти из вагона.Людей, который провожают других, попросили выйти из вагона.People who are seeing off others have been asked to leave the train carriage.

Past tense

Step 1 – take infinitive (imperf. or perfective) КУПИТЬ (to buy), ПОМОЧЬ (to help).
Step 2 – put in past tense КУПИЛ(А), ПОМОГ(ЛА).
Step 3 – drop out the endings Л(ЛА), КУПИ-ЛА, ПОМОГ-ЛА.
Step 4 – add ВШ if the stem ends on a vowel КУПИВШИЙ (that bought), add Ш if – on a consonant ПОМОГШИЙ (that helped).
Вчера мы познакомились с парой, переехавшей в наш город неделю назад.Вчера мы познакомились с парой, которая переехала в наш город неделю назад.Yesterday we met a couple that moved to our town a week ago.
Я узнала человека, учившегося со мной в одном университете.Я узнала человека, который учился со мной в одном университете.I recognised a person, who studied with me at the university.
Они рекомендовали этот учебник студенту, изучавшему русский язык.Они рекомендовали этот учебник студенту, который изучал русский язык.They recommended this textbook to the student, who learnt Russian.
